The Pink Tax Return — How Being Single Can Actually Be Powerful and Chic”New York, New York — October 13, 2025
Let’s be honest — being single isn’t a tragedy anymore, it’s a trend. The girls are self-sufficient, self-employed, and self-obsessed (as they should be). And Vogue just confirmed it: having a boyfriend is kind of… embarrassing now.
The cultural script says a boyfriend is a sign of success. Vogue says it’s a red flag. I’ve been single forever, and that used to sound like a confession. Now it’s a credential.
Because honestly? Being single in your twenties isn’t a lack — it’s leverage. No one’s draining your energy, You can flirt, flake, and focus on your own plot line.
In their latest article, Vogue cites The Delusional Diaries podcast episode, “Why Does Having a Boyfriend Feel Republican?” — which sounds like satire until you realize it’s sociology. Because in 2025, having a boyfriend might set you back.
Here’s my take: the cultural shift isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s about autonomy. For decades, women were taught to aspire toward partnership. Now we’re learning to aspire toward peace. And peace looks like knowing you don’t need a man for anything other than dessert, tbh.
In 2024, the U.S. fertility rate was 1.626 births per 1,000 women, well below the replacement rate of 2.1, according to provisional data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is the result after the overturn of Roe V. Wade.
The Republican Party seems to have this obsession with women having babies. A good place to start is the mothers mortality rate, let’s but our funding and advocacy to helping solve that problem first, before we jump the gun and start controlling women’s healthcare.
You don’t see boyfriends on the feed anymore because they’ve stopped adding value — to our lives or our algorithms. Until men start representing women’s rights and start treating women like the prize they are, boyfriends are officially out of season.
This isn’t to say breakup with that man that treats you like a queen just because vogue thinks he’s embarrassing, but it is to say if you’ve been worried about a breakup for the sole reason of being single again? you’re in luck, single is trending.
Hookups, situationships, sneaky links — they’re not commitment, they’re control-free zones. And if that sounds shallow, good. Women have been deep for centuries. It’s about time we get to have fun on the surface.
So here’s to my single girlies — not lonely, not lost, just no longer settling. The patriarchy should be flattered we’re even still flirting with it.
